London Lions hit a century for the first time this season as they put on a late show to beat Surrey Scorchers 103-73 and move into third place, outright, in the BBL Championship. Lions have now won 11 of the last 12 meetings between these teams, and remain unbeaten at the Copper Box Arena this campaign.
Alex Owumi led the scoring with 27 points on this occasion, while Molten BBL Player of the month Rashad Hassan added 23 with 13 rebounds, and Zaire Taylor had 14 points, 9 assists and 7 steals.
Scorchers got back to within single figures early in the fourth. But 11 in a row – from that quartet of Hassan, Taylor, Owumi and Williams – settled the game, 85-66 inside the final five minutes. The run became 27-1 over a five minute spell as the Lions finished in style to bounce back from last week’s defeat and move to 6-1.
