GB’s women earned their best ever finish at a Paralympic Games, after a loss to the Dutch in the bronze medal showdown secured the team a historic 4th placed finish in Rio.
The Dutch set the pace early, utilising their speed and strength to press and force GB into a host of turnovers. Capitalising on GB’s slow start the Dutch raced to a quick 17-4 lead after 10 minutes and increased their advantage to 33-17 by halftime. The clinical Dutch relentlessness continued in the second half as GB closed the 3rd stanza trailing by 24. Showing tremendous pride, however, GB never once let their heads fall and the team continued to battle until the final buzzer. Ultimately it was the Dutch who took the bronze medal 76-34.
Undoubtedly there will be disappointment in the camp, but with an extremely young core the achievements of this GB squad in Rio should not be dismissed. Congratulations GB on a historic 4th placed finish.
